Welcome to the Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral website. Founded in 1898, we are a multi-cultural community located in the historic Globeville neighborhood in Denver, Colorado.
The word "transfiguration" means to-be-changed. You may recognize the ancient Greek word for transfiguration: metamorphosis. We all long for good change in our lives; our bookstores and the internet are filled with self-help books promising us the tools for changing our lives.
As Orthodox Christians, we believe that any real change -- change for the good -- is rooted in Jesus Christ, the unique Son of God. The name of our church is connected to a real event in the life of Jesus (see Mark 9:1-8 or Matthew 17:1-8). On the Mount, Jesus' human body shone with the uncreated Light of His divinity. His very humanity was revealed as changed -- transfigured -- united with the divine nature.
Now that's change that no self-help book could ever provide. It's what Jesus came to establish and share with us, if we let Him. He calls us to be united to Him, by the power of the Holy Spirit, adopted as the children of God. This is what it means to be saved.
Come and experience the fullness of the Christian Faith here at Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral. This website is simply a bridge for your own journey to God: may it lead you to authentic Christian faith and life in Christ's Body, the Church.
If you are looking for real change, change rooted in what God has established, come and experience the life of Christ in the Church: in her worship, discipleship, community, and mission.
